Rehab, Now What????

On June 14th after I wrote my last post we heard from my brother for the 1st time since the day after Mother's Day.  He called my house, my cell, and my mother's cell no one answered.  He left us both messages stating he was in the hospital and was on the waiting list for the 12 step rehab he was sick of living this life and he missed us and needed to change.

OOOOOOOOHHHHH wait, I know most of you who have been reading our posts are happy to hear this news.  I, however, am a little reluctant to be happy.  I have heard all of this before.  My brother has been in rehab 6 or 7 times each time did great gets discharged and instead of following the program he goes right back to the way he was.  My brother also has a court date coming up and he likes to run to rehab to show a judge he is trying to change.  So I am not sure how to react to this news.  I am so happy he is going he needs too.  He needs to find on and actually work it.  I hope with all my heart he is going to do it this time.  Now I have to figure out a way to be supportive but not give up my recovery from his addiction and let him know I am still holding my ground.  Just because you go doesn't mean everything will be OK.  My heart is torn right now.  Not sure what to do or how to feel.

Lots of love and healing,

Heidi

  1. We always hope for the best. I called it guarded optimism when my son finally went to a long term drug treatment program. When he got out (was kicked out actually) after 75 days, he went directly to a "no tell motel" and stayed high for a week, came home to detox then left again. I try to have no expectations other than what is happening right now. I am not always good at it but I try.

Keeping you and your sis in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. I understand how you feel about being torn whether you should be happy for your brother or not. You have been through this cycle over and over, so it’s kind of hard to believe and trust him again. Although you may be reluctant, you should always be supportive of your brother because your family is all he has. Just think that at least he is trying so hard to change his life back to normal by opting to go to rehab. It is hard to stop something you have been addicted to and it really takes great effort. May he and your family remain strong and faithful about his recovery.

  5. There are numerous reasons to give to the Cenikor Foundation of drug addiction treatment, but the best reason is helping people become responsible citizens free of substance abuse. Cenikor gladly accepts gifts of cash, appreciated securities and gifts from retirement plans all help those achieve better health and better lives. There are many ways to give, including memorials and honorariums.

  6. Making the decision to break free from addiction is the best decision you will ever make so good for him. My suggestion is, he should choose inpatient drug rehab program. It has so many benefits and i am sure he will be able to forget drugs and bring back his healthy lifestyle again.

But for him to do this, you should help him to choose the best drug abuse rehab to be sure the rehab could help him in an effective way.

  7. I understand your sorrow as I was also a brother of drug addiction. But I admitted my brother into halfwayhomes.org and now he is passing his days with bad habits.

  9. Drug addiction can cause a lot of changes to the person’s health or mental state. Drug Detox Centers are there to provide the doctors and counselors that help people that are struggling with addiction to understand what it is that compels them.
